Lincoln Coming Soon
"Lincoln," the long awaited feature film directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Daniel Day-Lewis and Sally Field, is set during the Civil War and Day - Lewis is said to have given a riveting performance as the country's 16th U.S. President, Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, encouraging the outlawing of slavery and Congress' Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution finally freed all the slaves that December in 1865. Some of those freed slaves found their way to Hawaii. One in particular was Anthony Allen, who established the first tavern -bowling alley on the "plains of Waikiki" and many a missionary journal refers to Allen as a kind and generous man always willing to assist and share with newcomers. He is depicted in our film "Waikiki In the Wake of Dreams". But that's another story. No doubt Spielberg's new movie may be his magnum opus but this SNL trailer spoof on the man, the movie, and the mania in the Lincoln famiglia (Mrs Lincoln suffered from bi-polar disorder or maybe it was hormonal) is hilarious.
